Coco & Co - We Love Ballet!
Pirouette Workshops, Fridays 6 - 8pm
The workshop begins with a 45-minute barre followed by pirouettes exercises from the Royal Academy of Dance (Vocational Graded Syllabus for Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced students). The workshop is designed to focus on understanding and improving technical aspects of all turns: pirouettes en dehors and en dedans starting from and ending in different positions, diagonal turns: piqués en dedans, piqués en dehors, assemblés soutenus turns, chainés, and fouettés. Men will also have the opportunity to work on tours en l’air and tours à la seconde.

Learning objectives:
• Understand and improve pirouette preparations and turns;
• Understand fundamentals of weight placement;
• Improve use of contra-forces against gravity in order to enhance balance;
• Improve use of arms, quick spotting, and the importance of awareness of the surrounding space;
• Secure use of torso, correct weight placement sur place and in traveling pirouettes.

The level of class is Beginning III/Intermediate Foundation. However, if you attend Coco’s lower level classes, check with her to see if you could benefit from these workshops.

Classes are held at Shawl-Anderson Dance Center in Berkeley, CA.

Pirouette, Petit & Grand Allegro Workshop, Sundays 10 - 12:30pm
The workshop begins with a 45-minute barre followed by pirouettes, petit allegro and grand allegro exercises from the Royal Academy of Dance (Vocational Graded Syllabi for (Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced students). The workshop is designed to focus on understanding and improving technical aspects of turns and allegro steps. In addition to pirouettes (mentioned in the pirouettes workshop), we will work on petit allegro: entrechatstrois, quatre, cinq, and six, cabrioles, brisés, jetés, assembles battus, petits jetés en tournant among others, and on grand allegro: fouettés en tournant, grands jetés, and grands jetés en tournant, temps de fleches, ballonés, sissonnes ouverts and fermés among others.

Learning objectives:
• Improve the use of arms, quick spotting and the importance of awareness of the surrounding space;
• Secure use of torso and correct weight placement in pirouettes and allegro;
• Rapidly coordinate of the whole body in a range of harmonious lines;
• Effectively use of peripheral space and performance space, the ability to move through space gracefully and effectively;
• Deepen the harmonious relationship of torso, limbs, head, and eye focus in turning and jumping movements;
• Promote quick footwork and physical stamina.
